Project Characteristics:

Solar carports are overhead canopies built to cover parking areas and are distinct from panels installed onto a preexisting carport structure. Solar carports have many things in common with ground-mount solar panels, which are angled panel modules installed on the ground rather than on a rooftop. And solar carport is an open garage with a roof covered with solar cells. In this way you can generate your own energy, which can be used to generate electricity or heat. A solar carport is an ideal complement to an electric car, as you can charge the owner's vehicle directly with free, self-generated solar energy. With a solar carport, you can generate your own electricity and can use it to power your house or electric car. Not only can you insulate yourself from rising electricity prices, your carport can also finance itself.

If your house is not suitable for a conventional solar system, a solar carport can be used as an extension or alternative to an existing photovoltaic system. Electric cars can even be filled with valuable solar energy in the evening or at night, or you can use the electricity from your home

advantages of a solar carport at a glance

Just like a photovoltaic system on your roof, you can generate your own electricity with a solar carport. This gives you the opportunity to power your house and your electric car.

Charge your car with solar power in the evening or at night

Maximum flexibility allows you to use the system's integrated, partially transparent solar modules as an energy supplier in single and double carports and are therefore an ideal complement to conventional photovoltaic systems on the roof; they also protect your vehicle from the weather and act as a shade.

Choose to use intelligent energy management with integrated electricity storage if required

What makes a solar carport so attractive

Independence from the energy supplier

With a solar carport, you can generate your own free solar energy. You become independent of your energy supplier and can sustainably reduce your electricity costs. You can use it to generate your own solar energy in a sustainable and environmentally friendly way. This allows you to reduce your dependence on the public energy supply. In recent years, electricity prices have risen by almost 6% per year.

Carports are self-financing

Carports are not only a visual attraction, they are also a producer of electricity. Generate your own free solar energy and use it to replace the expensive electricity grid, saving energy and the environment

Installation independent of the house

With a solar carport, you are independent of the structural requirements of your house. The advantages are greater flexibility and a self-financing carport.

Extension of existing systems

Extend your existing photovoltaic system with a solar carport and always adapt the output to your individual needs.

Use of robust and partially transparent solar glass modules

Highest module yield reliability

Branded products and performance guarantees

A Flexible PV Carport Solution

Of course, this can also be used to extend an existing PV system. In this case, GAIN SOLAR offers you a modern solution which, among other things, ensures that your solar carport is self-financing and that you are no longer dependent on rising electricity prices.

A photovoltaic system on the roof of a house must meet many criteria before it can be installed. With a solar carport, you will be more flexible. You do not have to take into account the condition of the house or the slope of the roof. The structure is not complicated; you can also retrofit an existing carport with solar cells. In addition, due to the open design of solar carports, you usually do not have to comply with any fire regulations. If the roof of your house does not meet the structural requirements for the installation of a photovoltaic system, or if it is, for example, a protected building, carports offer a welcome alternative.

Charging electric cars or vehicles

With a solar carport you can charge your electric car or electric bike directly at home. You can power your vehicle in an environmentally friendly way directly from the photovoltaic system via a wall box or charger. So you have your own self-sufficient electronic charging station. Charging at home with self-generation is also much cheaper than charging at a public charging station.

Suitable for many plot types

A carport on your property does not look as bulky as a garage. This is particularly useful for small volumes. But even with more available space, solar carports are practical because you can choose the perfect location yourself. By choosing a location with little to no shade, the efficiency of your solar carport will increase.

Solar carports are self-financing

If it is efficient enough, a carport on your property can also pay for itself. You can then quickly recoup the cost of acquisition and save money in the long run over the life of the carport.

What are the disadvantages of a solar carport?

Carports are not adequately protected from the weather elements or extreme weather events.

Solar carports can be easily damaged - for example through vandalism.

Solar carports cost more money than conventional models - but they also bring in revenue.

Buying a new one is usually only a stop-gap measure. Retrofitting an existing carport only makes sense if the roof has been correctly aligned, there is little or no shade (from houses or trees) in the location and as much self-generation as possible (e.g. for electric cars), plug-in hybrids or electric bicycles.

FAQ

Solar carport: what is it?

A carport is used as a shelter for a car or other vehicle. As an alternative to a garage, it usually sits on four poles and is open on both sides. Because not every house has a roof suitable for a photovoltaic system, for example due to lack of space, unsuitable alignment or static or excessive shading, solar carports offer many homeowners the possibility of having their own photovoltaic system. This is because the carport is very flexible in terms of planning and has no adverse tendencies that could lead to problems. Solar carports are therefore a good option for generating electricity at home.

When is a solar carport worthwhile and it costs?

Whether a solar carport pays off depends on the price of electricity for your home, the feed-in tariff and the cost of electricity production (the cost incurred when converting some form of energy into electricity). If you produce your own green electricity through a photovoltaic system, the cost of electricity production is around 7 to 12 cents per kilowatt hour

With self-generation you are currently saving 39 to 44 cents per kWh. This has a positive effect, especially when charging your Stromer or electric vehicle. You can assume that the average output per kWh in Germany is around 1,000 kWh. However, the cost of generating electricity from a solar carport is higher than from a rooftop system.

If you do not use the self-generated electricity yourself, you can either store it temporarily in an electricity storage system for later use or feed it into the grid. The current feed-in tariff of 6.53 cents per kilowatt hour is slightly lower than the cost of generating electricity. It is therefore no longer sufficient to run a domestic solar system economically. You should check whether it can be used for your PV system before construction, as there are separate regulations for this. However, from 2023 a new law will come into force which also explicitly covers gardens and solar carports.

There may also be other costs, for example for wall boxes. However, there are also state subsidies for wall boxes and solar systems. These also apply to solar carports. The Renewable Energy Act states that you can get money from a photovoltaic system that generates its own electricity and goes into the public grid. How much depends largely on the size of the system.

You can usually determine the size of the system yourself. The size of the carport depends on whether you want a carport for one car or two cars

With a solar carport you can replace a conventional carport because it protects the environment and your wallet by generating its own electricity. Especially if you can't install a solar system on your roof, you have the opportunity to generate your own solar energy here. From an economic point of view, a solar carport is worthwhile in the long term, as the acquisition cost is recouped through use. A solar carport is worthwhile as a home charging station, especially for owners of electric cars, as it can save a lot of money on electricity bills.
